We're not the only ones who think this is fun!

The Upper Peninsula Overland Annual Trip has become a must do for some of us. We appreciate you taking the time to explore our website, but hope that you'll take a minute to check out the Upper Peninsula Overland Online Forums where you can interact with UPO Members to talk about absolutely everything adventure in Upper Michigan. This page of our website is also an attempt at helping UPO Members connect online. The trips come and go and it's hard to remember all the names and keep in touch with everyone. Hopefully this page will make it even easier for everyone to keep in touch.

Here is what Upper Peninsula Overland annual trip attendees have to say about Upper Michigan and their experience with U.P. Overland.

" After attending the first UPO adventure we had such a great time meeting new people and exploring the UP, we knew we had to set aside some time to be able to do this every year. On the 2nd UPO I proposed to my girlfriend on a beautiful stretch of beach along Lake Superior... Now we have to come back every year for sure!"

"We had been to the UP before, it was beautiful and fun, but going with the UP Overland group we experienced the UP like we never would have by ourselves. We saw places we would not have known were there, and traveling in a caravan of vehicles is an experience like no other. Meeting and getting to know other people with the same love of the outdoors and the spirit for adventure is fantastic. Looking forward to a new adventure and fun of next years trip."

First off, I am a huge Michigan history buff and the UP is loaded with it. Tracie and I had taken a trip across the UP in the summer of ’07 visiting a lot of places I had wanted to see for the longest time. In the summer of ’08 I had planned on attending the Tacoma Takeover in Harlan, KY for our summer vacation. Then I ran across the posting for the first UP Overland. I immediately signed up for the trip and cancelled any desire to attend the Kentucky gathering. We fell in love with the UP even more after that first trip with a deeper look at some of the areas we had visited the summer before. Plus we got to see some areas we probably never would have found. Plus we got to meet some great people whom we never would have met otherwise. Needless to say, the second event was a no-brainer; more trip, people and good times to remember for the rest of our lives. We certainly look forward to future UPOs.

Anyone can go to the library and get a travel guide to the U.P., but being able to explore it with friends - old and new - is better in so many ways. We are fortunate to have met up with a group of explorers whose approach to enjoying the beauty of the backcountry is so similar to our own. Having attended both the 2008 and 2009 Overland trips, we have every intention of not only attending future events but taking the knowledge and insight we gained on past trips to explore the hidden gems of U.P. more, and in even greater depth, on our own. Kristian, Jason, and Tom have done an excellent job of sharing their love and appreciation of the U.P. with others in a way that is truly contagious, and for that they are to be commended!

The wife and I made our first trip to Michigan's Upper Peninsula in August of 2008. We had just moved to the midwest (Chicago) from San Diego and were looking for places to get out, wheel, camp, where it wasn't so flat. Someone recommended we check out a run being organized on Expedition Portal. We joined up with what was the first UP Overland Adventure and had an absolute blast. We met great people and had a great time seeing places we never new existed. The diversity ranged from camping on Lake Superior to wheeling on a beach and hiking out to waterfalls. We couldn't wait to make the event again in 2009 and will be back in 2010 for sure.

I was so excited that you and Kristian were willing to share a route that you had developed to take my wife and I across the UP. A year ago, we didn't even know this type of organization existed, but one of your members introduced me to UP Overland and I've been a fan since. Using your route, we were able to see parts of the UP that we missed when we were up two years ago. We were happy to discover that you had included interesting places to see, so it was more than just a trail ride. This is exactly the type of trip that we've wanted to take. I can hardly wait to join your whole group in August. It should be a blast to be able to share this experience with people from all over the country. Michigan's Upper Peninsula is a glorious place. I'm glad there's finally a group that can help us explore it more fully.

It had been a long summer and spring. Wendy's (aka the Munchkin) father was diagnosed with the big "C" and spent the entire summer in Detroit. I spent this time moving our bike shop, worring about her and her family, and making the trek to the Motor City. I saw the thread for the trip on Expo and hoped it would be a nice little get away. It turned out to be more than we could've hoped for! Falling asleep next to lake Superior, gathering blue berries on the side of the road, and checking out some of the UP's history make memories for a life time. Months later Wendy and I are still talking about the people we met and showing pictures of the cool rigs and incredible scenery to anyone that will look. Bring on 2010!
