Anyone can go to the library and get a travel guide to the U.P., but being
able to explore it with friends - old and new - is better in so many ways.
We are fortunate to have met up with a group of explorers whose approach to
enjoying the beauty of the backcountry is so similar to our own. Having
attended both the 2008 and 2009 Overland trips, we have every intention of
not only attending future events but taking the knowledge and insight we
gained on past trips to explore the hidden gems of U.P. more, and in even
greater depth, on our own. Kristian, Jason, and Tom have done an excellent
job of sharing their love and appreciation of the U.P. with others in a way
that is truly contagious, and for that they are to be commended!

The wife and I made our first trip to Michigan's Upper Peninsula in August of 2008. We had just moved to the midwest (Chicago) from San Diego and were looking for places to get out, wheel, camp, where it wasn't so flat. Someone recommended we check out a run being organized on Expedition Portal. We joined up with what was the first UP Overland Adventure and had an absolute blast. We met great people and had a great time seeing places we never new existed. The diversity ranged from camping on Lake Superior to wheeling on a beach and hiking out to waterfalls. We couldn't wait to make the event again in 2009 and will be back in 2010 for sure.

I was so excited that you and Kristian were willing to share a route that you had developed to take my wife and I across the UP. A year ago, we didn't even know this type of organization existed, but one of your members introduced me to UP Overland and I've been a fan since.
Using your route, we were able to see parts of the UP that we missed when we were up two years ago. We were happy to discover that you had included interesting places to see, so it was more than just a trail ride. This is exactly the type of trip that we've wanted to take.
I can hardly wait to join your whole group in August. It should be a blast to be able to share this experience with people from all over the country.
Michigan's Upper Peninsula is a glorious place. I'm glad there's finally a group that can help us explore it more fully.
