About Upper Peninsula Overland

In July of 2010 We made the decision to dissolve our LLC and re-file with Michigan as a Non-Profit Organization. We are working on finalizing our efforts to work with organizations throughout the Upper Peninsula that are supportive of improving the Adventure Travel network. We are transitioning from focus on trips to more collaborative engagements that can lead to long-term sustainable Adventure Tourism growth throughout the U.P. Through our partnership with 9zero6, an Internet Marketing firm in Upper Michigan, we are pushing our message into never before tapped social markets. If you are interested in working with U.P. Kristian grew up on the Leelanau Peninsula in lower Michigan. He fell in love with the U.P. at a young age spending time every year at his family's cabin deep in the woods of U.P every fall. Kristian is a former motorcycle competitor, competing in motocross, supercross, and hare scrambles as well as alpine ski racing.

After retiring from ski racing in '94 he moved to Gunnison, CO to attend school at Western State and enjoy ski life outside of competition. It wasn't long before he moved back to Michigan because of missing the Great Lakes. In '97 Kristian moved to Marquette and attended Northern Michigan University to study business and economics while coaching the local USSA team (Great Lakes Ski Academy) and the NMU varsity women's alpine ski team. After graduating NMU Kristian took over as the head coach for the NMU ski team for two seasons.

In 2004 he was hired by the United States Ski and Snowboard Association as the director for the Midwest. In 2007 he took his current position with the United States Ski team working with the women's team as a coach and technician. In November of 2009, Kristian married an old friend, Alexia, on a mountaintop, and now resides between Evergreen, CO and Marquette, MI.

Tom was born and raised in Upper Michigan in the Munising area hunting, fishing and dabbling early on with photography on an 80 acre “playground” near VanMeer. Much of his outdoor enthusiasm was handed down and learned from his grandfather, a sawyer, successful businessman and avid outdoorsman. At 17, Tom joined the United States Air Force, serving 4 years with AFSOC specializing in avionics and night vision technology.

After the service he remained in Florida for 7 years as a business owner developing a strong appreciation for technology and social networking. During his time in Florida Tom enjoyed exploring the 460,000+ acres of Eglin AFB and Blackwater State Park in his old trusty FJ40. A strong love of the ocean developed, with scuba diving becoming a number one hobby for several years.

After a short year-long move to Southern California he could no longer ignore the calling of the U.P, moving back with his girlfriend of over 2 years, Myra. The couple happily resides in Munising.
